Private Lessons

The CMS program has a wide range of private lesson teachers. The experience and education of the teacher places them within five basic categories: Undergraduate Teacher; Graduate Teacher; Suzuki Teacher; Professional Teacher; Artist Teacher. The cost of a semester with your selected teacher is based on the length of lesson you choose, the number of lessons in the session, and the teacher category for your instructor.

For an up-to-date listing of available teachers and a fee quote, email Dr. Jane Weigel at jweigel@ua.edu

Students can join the CMS program for lessons at any point in the year. The standard number of lessons are 16 in fall or spring and 8 in summer. With advanced teacher permission you may be able prorate summer session to fewer/more than the standard package. All lessons must be taken during the semester of the enrollment (ie no lessons can be carried over to the next semester).  All lesson occur at the Moody Music Building on the University of Alabama campus. The day and time of the lesson is TBD  and should be established between the student/teacher prior to enrolling for the session. It is recommended that you ‘map out’ the lesson dates so that conflicts are avoided. There is a no make-up policy if students do not attend their scheduled lesson. If the teacher has to cancel the lesson they are obligated to offer a make up.

All teachers for CMS have completed mandatory training and have been background checked by UA prior to their hire. CMS teachers have a degree or are currently in a degree in the area of their teaching. Undergraduate and Graduate Teachers have their major professor’s approval for this outreach work.
