Summer String Camp Orchestra, 2018

Take Five Chamber Group, 2018

Mozart Chamber Group, 2018

We are excited to be offering a String Camp:  June 25 – 29, 2018. Camp meets from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. daily.  Early or late drop-off add-on available. Teachers: Ellen Grant and Allison Lavender, Matthew Grant (Orchestra); Joe Ortiguera (Chamber); Trey Hedgemon (Chamber).  The week culminates with a Friday afternoon performance (4:00 p.m., free admittance) by the Summer Strings Orchestra & Chamber Music Mentors.

In order to know if we have adequate instrument distribution for an orchestra and to know we have enrollment numbers to run the camp we must have your completed enrollment form with payment by this date.

Camp Options Include…

Beginning Violin Class Component: Cost $125 – due to low enrollment this component was cancelled this year.

For rising 3rd grade – rising 5th grade aged students who have no prior experience playing violin. Students will have daily group instruction on the violin, be introduced to basic note reading and be inspired by hearing their teachers and guest artists demonstrate the violin. Space is limited in this class. Depending on enrollment, this class may be split by age groups. This is a great way to get ready for Middle School (6th grade) strings class! Call the office, 348-6741, regarding availability of violins for this class.

Summer String Orchestra Component: Cost $125 – still accepting enrollment.

For elementary – middle school aged students who already play a string instrument, this camp will improve your ensemble and music reading skills by playing daily in an orchestra and participating in technique classes. You’ll be inspired by attending masterclasses by guest artists from the School of Music, and more. Students in Summer String Orchestra must be able to read music on all four strings and play in several keys. Experience with shifting and playing outside of first position is a plus, but not necessary. Teacher recommendation required if you have less than 2 semesters of middle school or high school orchestra experience (see pdf form below for teacher recommendation form). More experienced (mentor) student musicians will anchor each section.

Mentorship & Chamber Music Component for Select Middle or High School Students:  Cost $100 (contact us before enrolling in this component)

More experienced string students in middle and high school may enroll (by permission) in this option of camp. A select group of more advanced string students will serve as the leaders of each orchestra section, will rehearse in a chamber group (trio or quartet) daily, and will perform on the final concert. Teacher recommendation required as we have limited spaces for this component (see pdf form below for teacher recommendation form). Contact Dr. Jane Weigel if you are interested in being a mentor/chamber musician in String Camp.
