The Community Music School (CMS) is a non-degree granting outreach program for the School of Music which serves interested students of all ages and levels of ability. An accredited member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education, the 46-member CMS faculty is comprised of School of Music faculty, select graduate and undergraduate students, and credentialed professionals from the community.
Over 500 students receive private and group instruction on wind, brass, string, piano, harp, organ, guitar, drums, voice, and composition/theory. The CMS also features a thriving Early Music Enrichment program for children ages birth–7 years. Ensembles include the Adult String Orchestra, Campus Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles. The Community Music School offers classes, lessons, and ensembles for any age or ability in a wide range of instruments. We offer outreach to the general public including private lessons, group classes, ensembles, and pre-K enrichment. These non-credit activities are for all ages and all levels of ability. UA/CMS is committed to maintaining a delivery of instruction that allows students to continue their education with minimal disruption. Engagement may include on-campus, hybrid or remote classes and experiences, or – if circumstances warrant – the exclusive provision of services, classes, and other instruction or experiences on a remote basis, as practicable, or on an alternative schedule. While the method of delivery may change, educational instruction and opportunities will continue. As such, UA/CMS will not provide any refund of tuition, in whole or in-part, based on a change in the mode of instruction or schedule of delivery of any services, classes or other instruction or experiences. CMS students follow all UA health guidelines and mandates.
