Camp Options Include…

Summer String Orchestra Component: Cost $140

For elementary – middle school aged students who already play a string instrument, this camp will improve your ensemble and music reading skills by playing daily in an orchestra and participating in technique classes. You’ll be inspired by attending masterclasses by guest artists from the School of Music, and more. Students in Summer String Orchestra must be able to read music on all four strings and play in several keys. Experience with shifting and playing outside of first position is a plus, but not necessary. Teacher recommendation required if you have less than 2 semesters of middle school or high school orchestra experience (see pdf form below for teacher recommendation form). More experienced (mentor) student musicians will anchor each section.

Chamber Music / Mentor Component for Select Middle or High School Students:  Cost $140 (Contact us before enrolling in this component – spaces are limited and by approval)

More experienced string students in middle and high school may enroll (by permission) in this option of camp. A select group of more advanced string students will serve as the leaders (mentors) of each orchestra section. Chamber Music (one player on a part) will be assigned by level and students will rehearse with their coach daily. These ensembles will perform on the final concert. Teacher recommendation required as we have limited spaces for this component (see pdf form below for teacher recommendation form). Contact Dr. Jane Weigel if you are interested in being a mentor/chamber musician in String Camp.
